Just one of those off days- Hetmyer

first_imgIn the aftermath of the Guyana Amazon Warriors losing to Barbados Tridents on Sunday at the Providence National Stadium during the 2018 HERO Caribbean Premier League (CPL), inform batsman, Shimron Hetmyer believes it was just one of those days where Barbados got the better of them. Speaking to the media at the end of the match he said, “It was just we had an off-day one… of those days when the opposition had the better of us.”According to Hetmeyer he doesn’t think that the players have a lot of work to do ahead of the next match, other than to reflect on the loss and  …”come better for the next one.”Looking at the match, he credited Tridents for their performance as well while at the same time accepting that not much could have been done. “I think it was a well-played game by Barbados, at the end they came out on top yes, but I think our guys did as much as they could, I think it was well-played by Shai [Hope] and Steve Smith and even in the middle overs they got the better of us in some areas and the guys were put under pressure in some parts but coming down to the end I think it was just a good performance from them,” de declared.Even though the batting order did not perform as expected, the 21-year-old said: “We know what we try to do in the 20 overs, we try to get the top six batsmen to bat right through the innings, so if we have that and a set batsman like they had coming down to the last couple over I think the batter at the crease they will probably do most of the damage.”Similarly, Warrior’s skipper, Shoaib Malik referenced during the post-match that the team needs their top three to produce. While not being too critical of them, he explained that they needed more contributions at the top of the order and one of them needs to bat through the innings.Warriors have tinkered with the batting line up with Hetmyer being promoted to three and Sherfane Rutherford finding himself moving one position up after every game to bat at five in the last match, scoring 48.Luke Ronchi scored 0, 42 and 10 and Chadwick Walton 6, 31 and 6 in their three innings opening the batting. Hetmyer is their leading run getter and second overall with a total of 122 after scoring 79, 21 and 22 respectively. Hetmyer recognized that it was just a bad day for the Warriors but pinpointed some positives, noting…“they did get the better of us and I think even in the past two games our death bowling was pretty good so it’s just a bad day for us with the ball.”Against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Warriors conceded 36 runs in the last four overs while giving away 30 in the same period against St. Lucia Stars but went for 52 against Tridents.Warriors will need more from their bowlers with Imran Tahir and Keemo Paul taking four wickets each while Rayad Emrit and Chris Green have only managed three apiece and Sohail Tanvir, two.last_img
