Oil Leases To Be Sold in Cook Inlet
FacebookTwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享The federal government has released a draft plan for an offshore oil lease plan which would include portions of the Cook Inlet, Beaufort, and Chuckchi Seas. The proposed waters cover areas south of Kalgin Island to Kodiak. The Department of the Interior says they’re studying both how the sale could affect the marine environment and the impact on the community with increasing development. Jewell: “We’re particularly interested in hearing from the public and Alaska Native communities about whether these areas are appropriate for leasing and what steps we may need to take to protect these important resources found in them. Again, we look forward to hearing from the public and interested stakeholders before we finalize a program that can both meet our nation’s energy needs and protect our key natural resources.” DOI Secretary Sally Jewell says it’s a balanced proposal, but they’re still soliciting input… To submit public comments online visit regulations.gov and type in Cook Inlet 244.
