President Ramaphosa urges closer cooperation between South Africa and Ghana

first_imgSouth Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa and Ghana’s Nana Akufo-Addo shake hands during their meeting in Accra, Ghana./ PHOTO: South African PresidencySouth African President Cyril Ramaphosa met with his Ghanaian counterpart Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday in Accra, Ghana.The two leaders held bilateral talks and witnessed the signing of various agreements focusing on a range of issues.President Ramaphosa while addressing the Ghana-South Africa Business Roundtable pledged his country’s continued cooperation with Ghana for the benefit of both sides.“With Ghana as a key hub in West Africa, and South Africa as a key hub in Southern Africa, the strength of our relationship has the potential to more deeply connect our respective regions, and expand the scope of shared, inclusive regional trade,” he said.The South African leader noted that his country is the biggest buyer of Ghana’s exports.“South Africa is already the largest purchaser of Ghanaian exports in Africa, and the third largest importer of Ghana products globally. Between 2016 and 2018, Ghanaian exports to South Africa grew faster than to any other major trading partner,” President Ramaphosa said.He urged both sides to continue investing in each other to maximize the potential of their cooperation.“We recognise that as African countries, we cannot succeed without our partners in Africa succeeding.
