Rodong Shinmun, mouthpiece publication of the Workers’ Party, stated on Wednesday in its comments section, “The Lee Myung Bak clique made a 180-degree turn away from smooth and friendly North-South relations last year, by ignoring the June 15 Joint Declaration and the October 4 Inter-Korean Summit Agreement, and has publicly negated cooperation this year. They are raising war threats against the North.” According to the Rodong Shinmun critique, “They stubbornly cling to foul human rights comments about the North, spreading leaflets and broadcasts, making a fuss about a preemptive attack against the North and sudden changes here with feverish eyes.” It also claimed that the South was responsible for the latest inter-Korean relations deadlock, threatening that, “The Lee clique will be fiercely disciplined for their indiscreet anti-Republic (North Korea) maneuvers.” An online North Korean publication, Uriminzokkiri, commented in a piece entitled “The Identification of the Unconcealed Anti-Unification Rebel,” that, “Those who ruptured inter-Korean relations with ‘Vision 3000: Denuclearization and Openness’ were the Lee Myung Bak clique.” Meanwhile, Minju Chosun (Democratic North Korea), a publication from the North Korean Cabinet, posted on the 10th an editorial entitled, “Everything is the U.S.’ responsibility.”In the editorial, it claimed, “The reason why we had to develop the nuclear weapons, which demanded enormous money, effort and time, was that the U.S. pointed to us as a target for preemptive nuclear attack and continued to undertake provocative nuclear maneuvers against us.”“The position of our Republic is unchangeable; to terminate the U.S. nuclear threats and to promote denuclearization in the world, including the Chosun Peninsula,” the Minju Chosun editorial relayed, “The U.S. should throw away its anachronistic criminal nuclear policy immediately.”Thus, North Korea yet again moved to reiterate its claim that the motive for its “inevitable” nuclear development is decades of U.S. threats against it, coupled to the behavior of the Lee government. last_img
