Brian Wilson is Executive Director of the Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness, which oversees similar events and services across the state… Project Homeless Connect offered free massages, haircuts, job services, meals, and basic health and veterinary care. Wilson says volunteers are attempting to count the number of Alaskans experiencing homelessness over the next few weeks. The numbers will be used for future federal grant applications. FacebookTwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享Thirty four vendors provided services to the peninsula’s homeless – or near-homeless – population on Tuesday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. Wilson: “Alaska is a very unique state. From one corner of the state it’s going to look completely different from the other corner. We’re spread out geographically like no other state is, we have everything from population hubs such as Fairbanks, Juneau, and Anchorage, which have very tight ‘continuum of cares’ or service arrays in the communities, but then you have areas like the Kenai Peninsula, which is a series of smaller communities that have the challenge of working together. Homelessness doesn’t follow the barriers.” Free rides were offered Tuesday from various location across the peninsula, and attendees left with free coats, boots, hats and food.
