Powell with 17 points as Seattle beats UMKC 74-56

first_imgSEATTLE (AP) — William Powell scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds as Seattle beat UMKC 74-56 on Wednesday night.Isiah Umipig added 14 points, five assists and three steals for the Redhawks (12-13, 5-6 Western Athletic Conference). Jarell Flora had 13 points and Jack Crook had eight.Seattle jumped to a 16-9 lead early in the first half and had a 41-31 advantage at the break.Reese Holliday sank back-to-back 3-pointers early in the second half to bring UMKC to within seven points, 46-39, but Umipig answered with a pair of 3s to spark a 9-4 run to give the Redhawks a 55-43 lead with 12:09 to play. A jumper by Umipig, a tip-in by Powell and 3-pointer by Emerson Murray in the final two minutes sealed the win for Seattle, which shot 53.6 percent from the field.Holliday led the Kangaroos (11-16, 6-4) with 17 points. Tapeball competition commences Saturday

first_imgThe fourth annual Royal Tapeball Cricket Academy Inter-Secondary School Championships will commence on Saturday at the Durban Park Tarmac from 8:45hrs. Among the schools that have already submitted their registration forms are Bishops’ High, Queens’ College, Brickdam, East Ruimveldt, Tucville, South Ruimveldt, New Campbellville, IEA, the Business School, Central High, Carmel, St. George’s, School of the Nations, Christ Church, St. John’s College, Covent Garden, Friendship, Dolphin and North Georgetown.Winner of the event will pocket $70,000, medals and the P.K.F. Barcellos, Narine and Company trophy. On the other hand, the runner-up will collect $30,000 and the corresponding accolade.On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player [MVP] will walk away with a gold band.
